Nikon D3300 vs. D3400 DSLR: Specifications Comparison & Differences

Nikon has been one of the most popular camera manufacturing companies that have become a hot favorite with the professional photographers worldwide. It has recently launched Nikon D3400 as part of its ever-growing portfolio. In fact, the camera has been designed as the go-to option for the newbie photographers. The camera is designed to be a predecessor for the Nikon D3300. Practically speaking, there are not many huge differences between the two cameras. How do Nikon D3300 vs. D3400 compare with each other? We will check it out in the following paragraphs.

Nikon D3300 vs. D3400

To begin with, we would reiterate what we said before; both Nikon D3300 and D3400 are almost similar in most of the functionalities. Almost all the features tend to be the same and that includes sensors, processors, ISO range and shutter speed. If you already have Nikon D3300 and eyeing a D3400 just because it has recently been announced, we find no reason why you should upgrade. Well, if you are about to buy a new camera, you may opt for the Nikon D3400.

The sensor and processor

The Nikon D3300 comes with a 24.2 MP APS CMOS sensor with an ISO range of ISO 100-12,800, while the Nikon D3400 has almost the same options except that the ISO range is 100 – 25600. Both have EXPEED 4 processor powering it.

The D3300 was launched in 2014 and the D3400 was made available in 2016. Even with the huge gap of over two years between the two cameras, Nikon has decided to continue with the same resolution and sensor on the latest option. The ISO levels do differ as we outlined above. However, the D3300 can have the maximum ISO of 25600, though not as a native option.

Powered by the same processor, both cameras offer you the ability to shoot 12-bit RAW files and JPGs.

Autofocus

The Nikon D3300 shares the specifications exactly the same as in the case of D3400. Both of them offer you 11 Autofocus points that include one cross type point.

The cameras use the Nikon’s own Multi-CAM 1000 module with TTL phase detection option. You have access to single focus, continuous focus and manuals focus options available as with any other camera in the same genre. The cross type focus point tends to be light sensitive and thus can be the best for the low light photography.

Burst Shooting

The maximum burst rate offered by both the cameras is the same 5 fps. Of course, there are cameras with the better burst shooting speeds like 8 fps in the more advanced cameras from Nikon. But, the 5 fps threshold available on the Nikon D3300 and D3400 would be suitable for all practical purposes.

The 5 fps autofocus system may not provide the faster performance as such, but should be quite ideal for a camera with a 24MP resolution. We would not consider the cameras being underpowered in any way as long as the burst shooting functionality is concerned.

Video Shooting Capabilities

Both the Nikon D3300 and D3400 offer you full HD recording functionality up to 60p and thus share the specifications without any differences between them. That would make them compatible with the standards that folks looking for entry-level cameras would opt for.

You have access to multiple frame rates that you can choose as per your preferences. There are options for 24 fps, 30 fps, and 50/60 fps. Opting for the 60 fps option can have better options for slow motion recording.

The older sibling, the D3300 has a positive feature in its favor. It supports port for an external microphone, while the newer D3400 lacks it. So, if you are opting to use an external microphone during the video recording, Nikon D3300 could be your best bet.

The Design

Well, that was a point we had to take up in the beginning. But, for a camera – the most crucial aspects would be its photography capability. Both the devices come under entry-level DSLR devices. That would be precisely what has been taken care of in the build and design for both the siblings.

Both of the cameras come with same dimensions at 124 x 98 x 75.5mm. Both of them weigh just less than 500 grams thus enhancing the compactness of the devices. The D3300 is slightly a little more substantial at 460 grams, while the D3400 weighs at 445 grams. Both the cameras have used polycarbonate for the body construction, but tend to durable enough.

We would find both the Nikon D3300 and D3400 would be capable of taking the daily handling with good ability. It is interesting to note that there are no enhancements of any nature between the two siblings even when they are two years apart from the launch point of view. Even the button configuration and D-Pad access remain same across both of them.

Viewfinder

The similarities do not stop at just the features we have discussed above. The saga continues with the LCD and viewfinder options as well.

Both the cameras come with the LCD screen resolutions of 921k dots. The eye-level pentamirror viewfinder is yet another standard feature between both the cameras. It offers you a 95 percent coverage.

Additional Features

This is where the siblings differ regarding their features. The major among them is the connectivity features available on the DSLRs.

The older D3300 does not offer you any connectivity options like Bluetooth. The D3400 comes with the Bluetooth connectivity option. In fact, the Bluetooth connectivity option provided on the D3400 is through the SnapBridge connectivity system, the proprietary connectivity solution from Nikon.

As for other additional features, both Nikon D3300 and D3400 come with the inbuilt flash system and hot shoe arrangement (for adding an external flash). Almost all alternatives remain similar across both of them.

Battery

Both D3300 and D3400 come with excellent battery life. Of course, there are differences between the two – though not many poles apart. Both Nikon D3300 and D3400 come with the same battery pack in the form of Li-ion EN-EL14a.

However, there are differences regarding the shots you would get per charge on either of the devices. The D3300 offers you 700 shots per charge. Using the Live View and Long exposures may drain the battery life further though. However, the D3400 appears to be more efficient regarding being energy consumption. You would get 1200 shots per charge with it. That will make D3400 a better option if you are going on a long trip that would last a day out.

The Tabular Comparison

The tabulated comparison arranged side by side would help to understand the differences between the two cameras with ease. Here is how we would go about it –

Which one would we suggest?

The D3400 comes with two best features that may make it one of the best choices. The integrated connectivity options aided by the SnapBridge technology should make it one of the excellent opportunity for sharing your masterpieces. Battery performance is yet another feature that would make it an attractive option. It can take almost the double shots at the same battery charge in comparison to the D3300.

On the other hand, the D3300 has a few factors in its favor making it one of the excellent options in its own right. If you are getting almost all the features at the same level in comparison to the D3400, why spend extra for the D3400? Then there is another feature that would make it an exceptional service. It offers you a port for the external microphone. Shooting a video without external mic may not provide you the kind of audio quality you may be expecting.

The final choice should rest with you. In fact, the lack of huge differences between the two cameras would make the decision a little tougher. The exact choice rests with the personal preferences you have. Opt for the one that appeals to you the most and share your experiences with your new camera. Of course, with the launch of D3400 – the D3300 would be son going out of stock. If you are planning to opt for the D3300, do it fast before it is late. Or else, you have the equally capable D3400 at your disposal.

Sony IMX486 vs Sony IMX386 – What Is The Difference? Specifications

The smartphone revolution has been quite extensive in more ways than one. In fact, it has replaced almost all our devices and become a one-stop solution for diverse purposes. Whether you need a music player, a camera, a calculator or a word processor – you name it, and the device comes with an option for it. If you are someone who has been regularly using your smartphone for camera requirements, you would be interested in opting for a phone with capable camera performance. It should be understood that the camera performance is a factor dependent upon the sensors used in the cameras. We will discuss CMOS Camera sensors in today’s article (Sony IMX486 vs Sony IMX386).

A CMOS Sensor – What Makes The Difference?

Well, the importance of CMOS sensors has been because of the high performance that they pack in in their performance. The CMOS technology has been a new technology in the arena of camera sensors and has become one of the reasons why the prices have been dropping for the highly efficient smartphone cameras.

The CMOS Sensor technology consumes less power and offers you a high-end performance. In fact, it finds a widespread usage in almost all new range of cameras. What advantages do they come with?

Well, the CMOS Sensor is known to offer you a better performance and image quality even at the lower price and power consumption. Of course, traditionally – the CCD sensors have been used for producing excellent quality images, but they tend to consume more power. The CMOS sensors, on the other hand, have been able to offer you a 1080p video quality and also let you apply complex photo effects.

Sony And CMOS Sensors

Sony has been a pioneer and a clear leader in camera sensor technology. In fact, it has been a prime supplier of the camera sensors for a wide range of smartphones currently being launched.

Sony forayed into the production of CMOS sensors in 2008. Exmor is the brand name that Sony has given to the family of CMOS image sensors. The first to make its presence felt was Exmor R sensors in 2008. In fact, they were the first ever back-illuminated sensor technology. The back-illuminated sensor produces a better sensitivity and can be found in several Sony smartphones and Apple iPhone 2G. It is also capable of producing high definition videos and images in low light conditions.

The Exmor RS was introduced in 2012. Sony has several multiple families of Exmor sensors. These families differ regarding specifications, specialty, and purpose for which they are built. Of these, Sony Exmor IMX486 and Sony Exmor IMX386 are two excellent sensors that have been quite capable of.

Sony IMX486 vs Sony IMX386 – What Is The Difference?

Well, both IMX486 and IMX386 come under the same Exmor RS family of CMOS sensors. There are not many years apart regarding their launch.

However, it should be noted that the Sony IMX486 has just been launched and available only a couple of phones as of now. It could be too early to make a comparison right now. However, a comparison of specifications should not be a huge concern though.

Here are a few differences and similarities between the two capable CMOS sensors made by Sony.

  • Both the IMX486 and IMX386 sensors are of 12 MP resolutions. That would make them equivalent in terms of resolution. Unless you are looking for the excellently high-quality prints for commercial purposes, they should work e and excellent for all your needs as such.
  • The pixel size remains identical across both IMX486 and IMX386. The pixel size has a bearing on how much light is let inside your sensor. This would be helpful in ensuring a better low light functionality. The pixel size on both the competing sensors is 1.25 microns.
  • The sensor size also has a bearing on how much light is let inside the sensor and thus enhances the quality of the picture. But, even this section, both the sensor under question, IMX486 and IMX386 come with the same sensor size of 2 mm or 1/2.9”. Once again, both the sensors offer you an equivalent functionality and specifications.
  • One advantage that the Sony IMX486 can have is the technological enhancements over the past two years. The IMX386 was launched in July 2016 – while the IMX486 was launched in February 2018. Though Sony will not share the details of the exact technological enhancements, IMX486 does come with a sure advancement of over two years.

It should also be noted that a sensor alone cannot make a massive difference in the performance of your camera performance. It would all depend upon the level of optimization that the device manufacturer has implemented while using the sensor.

Check out the exact products for clear differentiation. We will find the list of devices that come with these sensors.

Spec Difference between Canon EOS M100 vs M50 Mirrorless Cameras

Mirrorless cameras have become quite popular these days. In fact, what would make it one of the prime choices is it retains the interchangeable lenses and bigger sensors available on DSLR cameras while doing away the mirror mechanism. This has a bearing on the fact that the mirrorless camera technology is what would give freedom to the manufacturers in producing the more straightforward and lighter models. Canon, one of the prominent Camera manufacturers, has been actively involved in the technology. Two such mirrorless cameras that Canon has introduced in the market are Canon EOS M100 vs M50. We will compare these two devices in today’s post. We assume this comparison should be helpful for you in making an educated decision.

Canon EOS M100 vs M50

Mirrorless cameras are also known as Compact Cameras. The CSC, or Compact System Cameras have been a trend of late, and there have been models that would suit everyone. There are several options – right from the entry level basic models to the full-fledged devices.

Before listing out the differences between the two devices, we would understand what exactly a mirrorless camera is.

Mirrorless Cameras – What Exactly They Are?

What is a mirrorless camera and how does it differ from the DSLR options? Well, the critical difference is the lack of a reflex mirror which forms part of the requirements that are necessary on a DSLR camera. The mirror in the DSLR reflects the light for the optical viewfinder. A mirrorless camera does not come with a reflex mirror.

The imaging sensor on a mirrorless camera is always exposed to the light, and thus you can still have access to the image preview either on the viewfinder or the LCD. The term Mirrorless camera is used for the cameras that have a digital EVF, or no viewfinder at all – but come with interchangeable lenses.

How Do Canon EOS M100 and M50 differ from each Other?

The Canon EOS M50 is the latest entrant in the arena of the mirrorless cameras from Canon. In fact, it is a slightly advanced version in comparison to the entry level model Canon EOS M100. We will differentiate both the cameras based on different features.

The Sensors

Both the cameras come with the same sensor – APS-C. There are a few inherent differences between the two though. The comparison chart here below should offer you a bright idea of the similarities and differences –

Features/ParticularsCanon EOS M50

Canon EOS M100

Sensor FormatAPS-CAPS-C
Lens Selection77
Monitor Resolution1.041.04

The Video Resolution

This can be a huge differentiator between the two competing cameras. The EOS M50 does come with 4K compatibility. In fact, M50 has been considered to be the first camera from Canon family of mirrorless cameras to feature a 4K video shooting capability.

The video shooting abilities offered by M50 would be 4K at 24p/25p, Full HD at 60p and HD at 120p. The EOS M100 can only shoot up to full HD at 60 fps. The M50 also allows for 4K time lapse and time grab features.

However, the 4K feature available leaves a lot to be desired. The autofocus used may be a little unreliable. Moreover, with the crop feature used in 4K mode, the field of view gets considerably reduced.

Rear Monitor

This is yet another differentiating feature that would keep the two competing cameras apart. However, we would consider it as a mere physical difference.

Both the models offer articulations options, but the EOS M50 provides you a multi-angle screen that you would be able to flip on one side and then rotate as per your needs. The M100 can only be tilted in a two-way mechanism. From that perspective, it may not be entirely ideal for the video shooting.

Auto-Focus Mode

Both EOS M50 and M100 come with the similar Auto Focus systems. You would get the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF system on either of the devices. However, there is a difference in the number of focus points available on the individual cameras.

The M50 is advanced in comparison to the M100 even in this case. The EOS M100 comes with 49 focus points and has a 7 x 7 grid. In fact, it would be hovering around 80 percent of the sensor area. The M50, on the other hand, offers you anywhere between 99 to 143 focus points. The exact number of focus points you would get will depend upon the lens used. The camera would utilize more than 88 percent of the sensor area.

The EVF Option

Under normal circumstances, an entry level camera does not come with an Electronic View Finder. However, Canon has been quite generous with the EOS M50 and has equipped it with 0.39 type EVF on the device. You would find it at the center of the body as in the case of a DSLR.

The M100 does not have a built-in viewfinder. It also does not offer an option for adding an external EVF. It is a hot she model and thus does not support adding an EVF.

Support For RAW Formats

Both M50 and M100 offer you the RAW converter support. However, M50 has also implemented the new CR3 14-bit RAW format as well. This format can reduce the file size by up to around 30 to 40 percent without affecting the original resolution. This will ensure that you would be able to save more files on your SD card.

Battery Consumption

This is an area where the M100 scores over M50. It can shoot up to 295 photos on a single charge. The M50, on the other hand, can come up with only 235 shots per charge. In fact, this has been considered to be the worst result among all the mirrorless cameras from Canon. However, there could be a few variations as it would be dependent on how you use the camera in the real world circumstances. On paper at least, the M100 takes the lead on the M50.

Silent Shutter Mode

Silent Shutter is one of the features that would help you in such situations where you would want to remain discrete while shooting with the camera. The best examples can be lectures, church services or similar other functions where silence or decorum is much needed. In fact, EOS M50 is the only camera in the mirrorless camera range from Canon that features a silent Shutter option. The M100 lacks the silent shutter mode.

A Tabular Comparison Between M100 and M50

A tabulated mode of observation should be helpful in understanding both the models from a closer perspective. It helps in a better comparison and thus enables you to choose the best option among the two.

What inferences can we draw from the tabulated comparison chart as above? Well, we find the EOS M50 a better option. The Canon EOS M50 offers several advantages over the M100 regarding a faster camera performance, a more rapid and accurate autofocus feature and the presence of an optical image stabilizer. The better video recording and a dedicated microphone connector should be the features that would make your videos more lively and realistic.

Our Verdict

Which among them would we suggest our readers? Well, you might already have found through the comparison presented herewith, the Canon EOS M50 scores over the M100 based on several important aspects. In fact, except the digital video stabilization and battery capacity – the M50 offers you additional features and better image quality. The only areas that the M100 can beat the M50 are the compact build that it provides and the value for money feature.

If you are looking for a mirrorless camera that is portable enough, smaller in size and low price, you can go for the EOS M100. However, if you are the one who does not mind trading the price for the better features – then the M50 should be your prime choice – thanks to the unique and advanced features that the camera comes with.

Sony RX10 IV vs Panasonic FZ2500: Specifications & Feature Comparison

Digital Cameras have been one of that essential equipment we carry quite often – whether on business trips or leisure. What features would you look for in your favorite digital camera? If you are finding it difficult to make a choice between the multiple options you have at your disposal, a review should be quite helpful in answering those questions. In today’s post, we will make a comparison between two of the best choices you have regarding Superzoom Digital Cameras – Sony RX10 IV vs Panasonic FZ2500. Launched a year apart, both these cameras have become quite popular in their own right. If you are confused between the two, the following comparison should be helpful in addressing your concern. Please note that we will not be coming up with a verdict on which one among them is good, but will only share the comparison and leave the decision to you.

Sony RX10 IV vs Panasonic FZ2500 – Which One Should You Buy?

Well, both Panasonic FZ2500 and Sony RX10 IV come under the Large Sensor Superzoom cameras. Most of their features tend to be similar. There are slighter differences between the two though. We attempt differentiating the two so that you can make a wiser purchasing decision depending on the features that you would indeed need.

Design

Regarding the design and body comparison, the Panasonic FZ2500 is a little larger than the Sony RX10 IV. Also, the body weight of the Panasonic FZ2500 is considerably more substantial when compared with the offering from Sony.

Sony RX10 IV comes with weather sealing and offers you splash and water resistance as an added advantage. Panasonic does not provide any weather sealing on its digital camera. As long as battery backup is concerned, both Panasonic and Sony devices offer you similar features in most aspects. Sony RX10 IV can take up to 400 snaps while Panasonic can shoot up to 350 on a single charge.

Here is the physical specification chart that would give a clear indication of the differences and similarities.

Sensor and Other Features

The sensor is what would assume more importance than the other aspects of your digital camera. In fact, it will be one factor that determines the efficiency and quality of your images.

Professionals prefer a camera with large sensors. A large sensor would be able to absorb more light because of the more significant surface area and larger individual pixels. Lager sensor size would make it the best option for a full dynamic range and better low light photography. You would also get rich color depth with a more considerable sensor. If you are a professional photographer, you would love larger sensor as it provides you better control over depth of field, provided you have a capable lens.

However, the larger sensors increase the bulk of the cameras. In our case, both the cameras sport the same sensor size and a megapixel count of 20.

Which One Would We Buy?

Frankly speaking, your choice should depend upon your requirements as such. Both the competing devices have been similar in most of the essential aspects. There are a few features that they take the upper hand over the other as indicated in the tables above.

The broad features that would go in favor of Panasonic FZ2500 can be summarised as

  • Flexible LCD ensures that you would be able to shoot odd angle shots.
  • The faster shutter speed that would help you freeze the action sequences.
  • Lighter construction would make it easy to carry around.
  • More importantly, it is affordable than the competitor.

On the other hand, Sony surpasses the Panasonic device based on following points

  • Control Panel ensures better-customized shots
  • Faster burst speed will provide a better option to shoot fast-moving objects.
  • Wider maximum aperture will ensure that you get better low light shots.
  • Weather sealing provision makes it best for all terrains and weather conditions.
  • Offers you more shots per charge thereby ensuring better battery backup.

As you would see, there aren’t any significant differences between the two cameras. If you take the points alone, Sony may win hands down, but a camera preference is entirely personal in every aspect, and the exact choice will depend upon your shooting habits and the individual requirements that you may have. From that point of view, we would assume that the complete comparison sheet presented above based on different features should go a long way in helping you make a decision that you will never repent later.

Top 4K Webcams For Zoom YouTube Streaming or Professional Needs

A webcam can be the best way for you to stay in touch with your colleagues, family, and friends, no matter how far they are. However, apart from this facet of their applicability, they are also quite useful and practical enough for their usability at offices. You can use them for business operations with your clients. It can also be helpful for a one-to-one conference with your staff and colleagues. Most of the available webcams are either HD (720p) or FHD (1080p). 4k is still a mostly unexplored niche category. So, we explored and found a few. Here are some of the top 4K webcams that should meet your requirements.

What Should You Look For In A Webcam?

Here are a few points you need to take care of before finalizing the webcam of your choice. This should form part of the basis for a better decision.

Recording quality should be of prime concern. A webcam with the old standard of 480p is not enough these days. If not 4k, getting a 1080p should be the minimum requirement. Also, do pay attention to the difference between 4K recording and streaming. A webcam with a 4K recording capacity may not necessarily be able to perform to the same level in the case of streaming. If you need fast streaming, check out your options before you buy the webcam.

The microphone is yet another aspect you need to take care of. If you are into creating specialized videos, you may be having specialized recording rooms. But, for an ordinary office, it may not be the exact scenario. It may be a great idea to look for a webcam that reduces the background noise in such circumstances. This would help you be confident that the other party can listen to yours.

Are you into zooming a lot while on a webcam? Please note that zooming can have severe effects on your communication, especially the conference calls. If you are into zooming, do check that your chosen camera has proper autofocus functionality.

Field of view is yet another feature that can be worth attention. However, the exact requirement would depend on what you are looking at. For most of us who are into office communication at the forefront of a webcam, field of view may be an option only secondary. But, if you are looking to make YouTube Videos or other similar creative masterpieces, we would advise you to opt for a better field of view.

When it comes to ‘live streaming,’ clear video communication is essential. Your laptop or computer must be equipped with a functional webcam that can meet this need. One of the most important specs to consider before buying any webcam is the resolution. The 1080p (Full HD) webcams are already prevalent in the market for a long time. For utmost video clarity, it is wise to go for the 4K webcams.

The difference between 1080p webcams and 4K webcams is that the latter can produce an exceptional video quality level that is quite better than you are obtaining from the built-in webcam of your computer.  Moreover, viewers can see you in quite vivid detail, and your appearance will be more professional. For Zoom video calls, YouTube streaming, and other professional needs, the 4K webcams are the best fits. Apart from offering better quality photos and videos, they also provide clearer audio. Let’s get familiar with which are the best 4K webcams:
